Ouzinkie Village

Sharing doesn’t mean the village of Ouzinkie is surrendering control, it can actually strengthen it. When the community chooses what images to share and what story to tell, they’re shaping how the outside world understands them. Ouzinkie is becoming the narrators of their own place rather than leaving others to imagine or speculate for them.

Photos of their landscapes, wildlife, and daily rhythms, these celebrate what they love without revealing exactly where they are or inviting intrusion.

Many communities share their beauty while maintaining privacy about access. They show the world their island’s spirit without opening their doors to everything.

What Ouzinkie has could inspire others to protect their own places. Sometimes sharing beauty creates allies and awareness rather than threats. And children and grandchildren might someday be glad there’s a record of this place and this way of life.

Ouzinkie stays in complete control of what gets shared and when. But they find that sharing on their terms is different than being discovered on someone else’s terms.
