Dipnetting season kicked off on Wednesday at the Kasilof River, and it's open 24/7 until the first week of August, unless the Alaska Department of Fish and Game decides otherwise.
This personal use fishery is exclusively for Alaska residents with a valid resident sport fishing license and an Upper Cook Inlet personal use permit.
Where to Dipnet:
Shore: From the mouth of the Kasilof River upstream to the Sterling Highway Bridge, in areas marked by Fish and Game.
Boats: From the same beach markers to mile 4 of the river.
Important Rules:
No King Salmon or Non-Salmon Species: Dipnetters can't harvest King salmon, Dolly Varden, or trout. If caught, these fish must be released immediately.
Mark Your Catch: Harvested salmon must have both tailfin tips clipped.
Biologists' Predictions: Fish and Game biologists are optimistic about this year's Kasilof sockeye run, expecting it to exceed biological escapement goals. Recent years have seen record-high sockeye runs!
Harvest Limits:
Per Permit Holder: 25 salmon
Additional Household Member: 10 salmon
Beach Access: Dipnetters can access the beach on foot or by vehicle. Drivers must stay above the high tide mark and avoid sand dunes to protect the beach grass.
