Ouzinkie Wellness Center Soft Opening Success

SIDCO held the community's first Open Gym workout session on July 9, 2026, for the community of Ouzinkie, Alaska.

Following the completion of the Community Connectivity Center (CCC) in late 2025, the SIDCO Board has been working hard to purchase all of the equipment needed to outfit the building with both office space and a wellness/workout facility. Although the workout equipment was ordered several months ago, a combination of shipping delays and coordination with the Alaska Marine Highway ferry system resulted in several months of delays before the facility could be fully set up and operational.

Despite these challenges, the community can now access the facility and take advantage of the new wellness center.

The soft opening, held on July 9, had a great turnout, with ten community members attending to sign their waivers. Many of those participants stuck around to complete their first workout in the new facility.

The SIDCO Board is working with the Kodiak Area Native Association (KANA) to coordinate a regular schedule that will allow community members to access the facility on days and at times that are convenient for as many village residents as possible.

Thank you all for your patience as we continue building out SIDCO and the Community Connectivity Center. Please stay tuned as we finalize plans for an official community ribbon-cutting ceremony to properly celebrate and dedicate the new building.
